School review information

The school has demonstrated a commendable upward trajectory in its academic ratings. It is an excellent environment for self-motivated students who thrive in project-based settings.
Editorial review summary
Publicly available parent reviews for Brookside Elementary are somewhat limited, but discussions on community forums provide valuable insights, particularly regarding the SAIL STEAM program. Parents praise the school for its supportive teachers, friendly administration, and a well-behaved, intelligent student body. However, families note that the STEAM program requires a very high level of parental involvement. Because STEAM students attend school in-person only four days a week, parents are responsible for facilitating 20% of the curriculum at home on Fridays. Overall, parents whose children are enrolled in this program report highly positive experiences.
Common positives
- Hosts the specialized SAIL STEAM K-7 program focusing on science, technology, and innovation.
- Recent upward trend in academic performance, reaching a 6/10 Fraser Institute rating.

- Positive school culture with active community initiatives (e.g., holiday giving drives) and PBIS behavioral rewards.
Common concerns
- The STEAM program requires a significant time commitment from parents, including facilitating home learning on Fridays.
- Historical academic performance has fluctuated, reflected in a modest 5-year average of 5.1/10.
- Limited public feedback available regarding the mainstream (non-STEAM) educational track.
Who this school may fit
Highly recommended for families who are interested in a progressive, STEAM-focused education and have the flexibility to support the 4-day in-class/1-day at-home learning model. Families seeking a traditional 5-day schedule should inquire directly with the school about the mainstream track to ensure it meets their child's needs.
