School review information
Cedar Hills Elementary is a vibrant, community-focused school that excels in celebrating its multicultural student body and fostering student leadership. While its academic ratings have historically been below the provincial average, a recent upward trend is an encouraging sign. The school provides a supportive, inclusive environment with a solid array of extracurriculars, making it a welcoming place for diverse families.
Editorial review summary
Publicly available parent reviews for Cedar Hills Elementary are very limited. Based on available school communications and community discussions, it can be reasonably inferred that parents appreciate the school's highly inclusive and multicultural environment. The active Parent Advisory Council (PAC) and frequent cultural celebrations (such as Diwali and Vaisakhi) suggest a strong, engaged community. Recently, parents have been navigating a transition in before- and after-school care providers, as the YMCA program ended in June 2026 and is being replaced by Mighty Kids Childcare Foundation.
Common positives
- Rich multicultural environment that actively celebrates diverse backgrounds (e.g., Diwali, Vaisakhi, Eid).
- Good variety of extracurricular clubs (Drama, Lego, Dance, Chess) and sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball).
- Strong focus on student leadership and community contribution through roles like Lunch Monitors and Clean-Up Crew.
- Recent upward trend in Fraser Institute academic ratings (improving from 3.9 to 4.8).
- On-site preschool and incoming before/after school care options.
Common concerns
- Overall academic performance remains below the provincial average (5-year average of 4.3/10).
- Recent transition in before- and after-school care providers (from YMCA to Mighty Kids) may require logistical adjustments for working families.
- Limited public parent reviews make it difficult to independently verify everyday parent satisfaction.
Who this school may fit
Recommended for families who value inclusivity, cultural celebration, and active student involvement in school life. Parents highly focused on top-tier academic rankings may want to supplement learning at home, but the school's recent rating improvements and supportive culture are strong positive indicators.
