School review information
Meadowridge is a destination school that blends elite IB academics with a unique 'school in nature' philosophy. It offers a prestigious, albeit expensive, education where students get dirty in the forest as often as they excel in the classroom.
Editorial review summary
Parent and alumni reviews paint a picture of a close-knit, 'bubble-like' community where safety and holistic development are paramount. The 'North Forest' and outdoor education programs are frequently cited as unique highlights that distinguish it from urban private schools. However, reviews also note the intense academic pressure, particularly in the upper IB years, which can be stressful for some students. The high cost of tuition and significant enrollment fees are common points of discussion, with families debating the 'value for money' given the location in Maple Ridge. Commuting can be a challenge for those living outside the immediate area.
Common positives
- IB Continuum World School (PYP, MYP, DP) ensuring consistent, high-level curriculum K-12
- Exceptional 27-acre campus featuring the 'North Forest', greenhouses, and extensive gardens
- Small class sizes and low student-teacher ratios fostering personalized attention
- Strong emphasis on 'Outdoor Experiential Ecological Education' (OE3)
- consistently high ranking and academic reputation in BC
Common concerns
- Very high tuition and one-time enrollment fees (among the most expensive in the region)
- Admissions are competitive and selective, requiring assessments and interviews
- Location in Maple Ridge may be a difficult commute for families in Vancouver or Burnaby
- IB Diploma Programme can create a high-pressure academic environment
