School review information
Our Lady of Good Counsel is a top-tier independent Catholic elementary school in Surrey, offering a rigorous academic environment paired with deep spiritual formation. It is an excellent choice for families seeking a faith-based education with strong community support and convenient wrap-around childcare options.
Editorial review summary
Public parent-review signals are limited for this school. However, based on available community information and school newsletters, it can be reasonably inferred that parents highly value the strong Catholic identity, the Salesian spirit of community, and the emphasis on moral development. The availability of preschool and out-of-school care is a significant draw for working families. Active parent involvement in committees and annual fundraisers (such as the Lap-A-Thon) indicates a tight-knit, supportive, and engaged school community.
Common positives
- Excellent and consistently improving academic performance (Fraser Institute rating of 9.1/10).
- Strong faith-based education with a focus on the Salesian spirit and moral development.
- Comprehensive wrap-around care including preschool, after-school, and out-of-school programs.
- Active community involvement and robust religious extracurriculars (Choir, Altar Servers, Rosary Club).
- Competitive athletics program within the CISVA network (e.g., championship basketball teams).
Common concerns
- Limited public parent reviews make it difficult to gauge diverse community perspectives.
- As an independent Catholic school, tuition fees apply, which may be a barrier for some families.
- Religious curriculum and strict adherence to Catholic teachings may not be suitable for non-religious families or those seeking a secular education.
Who this school may fit
