School review information
Southpointe Academy stands as the premier private educational fortress in South Delta, offering a globally recognized IB education that justifies its premium price tag through rigorous academics and intimate class sizes.
Editorial review summary
Parent and student reviews paint a picture of a 'tight-knit' and safe community located in quiet Tsawwassen. Families appreciate the small class sizes (capped at 24) and the close attention from teachers, which contrasts sharply with the overcrowding in public schools. However, discussions on forums like Reddit often debate the 'value for money,' with some questioning if the high tuition and mandatory deposits are worth it compared to strong local public options. The rigorous IB workload is a common theme, described as demanding but effective for university preparation. Some reviews mention a 'bubble' atmosphere due to the school's small size and location.
Common positives
- Exclusive IB Continuum School (one of the few in BC offering IB from K-12)
- Small class sizes capped at 24 students ensure personalized attention
- High academic ranking (9.1/10) and strong university placement track record
- Safe, scenic campus location in South Delta near the ocean
- Comprehensive 'Project Discover' outdoor education program
Common concerns
- High cost of attendance, including significant tuition and a mandatory 'Education Investment Deposit' (~$15,000+)
- Commute can be difficult for families living outside of Tsawwassen/Ladner
- Rigorous IB curriculum can be overwhelming for students not academically inclined
- Smaller social circle compared to large public high schools
Who this school may fit
