2026 report · 2024-2025 school year
Quick take
Tomsett Elementary is a well-regarded, diverse community school that has recently benefited from significant facility upgrades, including new, modern classrooms and seismic improvements. Academically, it offers a stable and supportive environment. However, families must be prepared for the realities of its popularity and neighborhood density; securing a spot for enrollment and after-school care can be highly challenging.
Publicly available parent reviews and community discussions highlight a close-knit, diverse school community where families speak over 26 different languages. Parents and students highly appreciate the newly opened (2026) modular classrooms, which feature air conditioning, modern amenities, and improved seismic safety. However, the most prominent theme in parent discussions is the frustration over capacity issues. Due to rapid neighborhood growth, the school has faced severe over-enrollment, leading to waitlists even for families living directly across the street. Securing spots in the YMCA before- and after-school care programs is also highly competitive. Overall, while the learning environment and community are praised, the logistical challenges of enrollment and childcare are significant pain points.
Highly recommended for families living within the catchment who value a diverse, close-knit community and modernized facilities. However, parents should apply as early as possible during the priority window and have a backup plan for both school placement and childcare, given the persistent capacity constraints.
