School review information
Urban Academy Junior is a top-tier independent elementary school in New Westminster that offers a progressive, arts-infused education. With its stellar academic record, small class sizes, and strong community focus, it provides an enriching environment for young learners. However, the financial commitment is substantial, making it best suited for families who are prepared for the high tuition and one-time capital fees.
Editorial review summary
Parent feedback for Urban Academy is generally very positive, with families praising the school's warm, dedicated staff and the tight-knit community feel. Parents appreciate the small class sizes and the unique arts-infused, hands-on teaching methods that keep young students engaged. The modern, purpose-built campus and robust outdoor education programs are also frequently highlighted as major benefits. However, some parents on local forums have expressed concerns regarding the high cost of attendance, noting recent tuition increases and substantial non-refundable one-time fees (such as the UA Community Fund and registration fees) required for new students.

- Small class sizes (16-22 students) providing individualized attention.
- Innovative arts-infused and inquiry-based curriculum.
- Strong emphasis on outdoor education and experiential learning.
- Modern, purpose-built campus with licensed Out-of-School Care (OOSC).
Common concerns
- High tuition costs with recent reported increases.
- Significant non-refundable one-time fees for new families (e.g., $10,000 UA Community Fund for the first child).
- As a smaller independent school, admission spaces can be highly competitive.
Who this school may fit
Highly recommended for families seeking an academically rigorous, creative, and close-knit independent school environment, provided they are comfortable with the significant financial investment required.
