School review information
Wix-Brown Elementary is the definition of a 'hidden gem' for families seeking connection over competition. It trades high-pressure academic rankings for a nurturing, village-like atmosphere where no child is anonymous. While its test scores are average, its aggressive implementation of modern literacy and numeracy interventions shows a school actively investing in its students' future.
Editorial review summary
Parent reviews highlight the school's distinct 'small, rural community' feel as its greatest asset. Families appreciate that 'everyone knows everyone,' creating a safe and inclusive environment where staff are familiar with every student, not just those in their own classes. Reviews often mention the supportive nature of the Principal and teachers. However, some discussions note that due to the small population (approx. 230 students), split classes are very common. It is viewed as a welcoming feeder school for D.W. Poppy Secondary.
Common positives
- Tight-knit rural community where staff know every student
- Strong focus on inclusive and social-emotional learning
- Personalized support via the RTI (Response to Intervention) model

- Direct feeder path to D.W. Poppy Secondary
Common concerns
- Academic ranking is average (5.2/10)
- Frequent use of split/combined grade classes due to small size
- Fewer extracurricular options compared to larger urban schools
- Rural location requires transportation for most families
